HAKONE, JAPAN — Get ready to pack your bags for the ultimate Japanese retreat. Hotel Okura Co., Ltd. is bringing a new level of luxury to Hakone’s famous Gora district with the upcoming launch of The Okura Resort Hakone Gora in 2029.
This will be the first Okura Resort property to open in Japan, developed by Nishimatsu Construction Co., Ltd., and operated entirely by Hotel Okura—Japan’s leading international hotel operator.
Why Hakone? The area attracts nearly 20 million visitors each year, drawn to its breathtaking mountain scenery and therapeutic natural hot springs. The new resort, nestled in Gora, is poised to become a sought-after destination for travelers seeking both relaxation and authentic Japanese culture.
“Our goal is simple: to offer a refined experience rooted in omotenashi and Japanese aesthetics,” says Toshihiro Ogita, President of Hotel Okura Co., Ltd.
The resort, conceptualized as a “Forest Hideaway” by Curiosity Studio, features just 58 spacious guest rooms. The highlight? Every single room in the resort comes with a private open-air bath featuring coveted Owakudani Hot Spring water.
Beyond the rooms, guests can enjoy a fine dining restaurant (complete with a teppanyaki counter), an extensive communal bathing area with saunas, and a stylish lobby bar. The property will offer easy access from nearby Gora Station, making this luxury hideaway convenient for both domestic and international guests.
