In a modern David and Goliath story, the animated “K-Pop Demon Hunters” has slain a Hollywood behemoth. The film has officially surpassed “Red Notice”—a movie with a giant budget and three of the world’s biggest stars—to become Netflix’s most-watched movie ever.
The “slingshot” in this battle was the film’s incredible global appeal, which resulted in 236 million views. This number was more than enough to topple the giant that was “Red Notice,” proving that innovative storytelling can be more powerful than brute-force star power.
While the smaller hero won the main fight for views, the behemoth still looms large in another category. “K-Pop Demon Hunters” is third in total minutes watched (23 billion), behind the longer “Red Notice” (27 billion) and “Don’t Look Up” (25 billion).
The giant-slaying film’s victory lap includes a massively successful soundtrack with four top-10 Billboard hits. A sequel is already being forged, ensuring this new champion’s story will continue.
